On deck four of the ill-fated spaceship Von Braun, the character you've been working with for the first half of the game turns out to be the dead puppet of SHODAN, the malevolent AI introduced in the original System Shock. It's also surprising that, at the time, more people didn't see it coming, as the setup and delivery echo an equivalent reveal penned by Ken Levine in System Shock 2, the game to which BioShock was marketed as a spiritual successor. The flurry of half-baked ideas that follow - your plasmids don't work, you're sort of a Big Daddy - fail to rebuild the momentum which leads up to that clarifying moment. In fact, so successful is this scene that it ends up hurting the remainder of the game. The scene in which you finally encounter Andrew Ryan, your body buzzing with adrenaline after the rigmarole you've gone through to find this megalomaniac, only to be delivered the debilitating narrative gut-punch that you've been guided like a puppet the entire time, is often considered one of gaming's greatest feats of storytelling. I also want to do a Steam Controller Play through.2007's BioShock blew everyone away with its momentous second-act twist. TL DR you totally can mess around with Psi pretty easily without comitting to it entirely but there are definitely builds where Psi investment should be your priority. I also want to do a Steam Controller run at some point. From what I hear Psy isn't something you can half commit to you need to make your whole build around it. I ignored Psy completely this run and I think it was the right call because I had so many points to use. Originally posted by DANK MLG GAMER:I plan on it at some point. Melee characters Benefit dramatically from the psi skills that boost strength and melee damage, and those are tier 2 I believe and take more investment, they also benefit from localized pyrokinesis that prevents reduces explosion damage, which makes fighting robots much easier. They are very cheap and you use them the entire game, the only downside is needing to keep a Psi Amp. Many characters (most actually) can benefit from the tier 1 psi skills for Agility, Cyber Affinity and Damage resistance. Psi is no different, it just depends on what you want to do with the Psi skills. You can make a lot of stuff work in SS2 if you know what you’re doing. Harder but fun to do I plan on it at some point. Originally posted by Thermal Lance:You should try a psy run. Overall System Shock 2 is an amazing game and everyone should try it. I am one of those people who really takes his time and looks for everything so maybe that helped. I went Navy and rolled a Gun Hacker character which is what most people agree is the best at least on a first run. By the end of the game I had like 4 maxed out stats. It feels like a fun victory lap.Īlso I didn't struggle as much with resources and character building. ![]() Once again my bad vision lead me astray here. The Rickenbacker sent you on a literal Easter egg hunt. ![]() The backtracking to engineering felt poorly implemented. Everything after your first run through operations. ![]() If that "System shock 2 enhanced edition" ever happens I hope they include more options for people with bad vision. I think it was to dark, I have bad vision and had a hard time seeing sometimes. This game has been calling my name my whole life and I finally had my date with destiny and beat it. I found a video called something like "10 games to play on the Steam Controller" and number one was SS2. Ironically Yahtzee says that you could't play this game with a controller which leads into how I next came across this game when I got a Steam Controller and was looking for game to play with it. The meme originates from the Zero Punctuation review of System Shock 2. When I started getting into PC gaming I of course found the PC Master Race meme. I first heard of this game because my cousin had a physical copy and he always had a hard time with it. Thanks to all the people who helped me in the 3 threads I posted here. I think the screenshots of the ending I took are visible on my profile.
